Several big name dug companies have announced that they are continuing to perfect anti-obesity drugs. These companies have had products in the past however they were either taken off the market due to evidence of tumor growth in rats, or the FDA didn’t feel the drug was effective enough.
It appears that for once the FDA is actually attempting to really pay attention to the choices they make in terms of weight loss pills and approval.
With obesity continuing to rise in America, even with the large awareness, it’s no surprise that these drug companies are running around to try and perfect their “potion”. They know that if they are able to pass an effective drug with the FDA then they have a huge money maker.
What never fails to amaze me is the desire for quick weight loss. There is one anti-obesity cure that has been around for thousands of years… it’s called eating healthy and following a workout plan.
I have to questions these drugs, are they something that would have to be taken for the long term? I can’t help but think if they end up truly helping obesity that the individual would just gain weight right back when the pills are gone.
To me that just means that on the package label will be an announcement saying that lifestyle and exercise are needed for best results… well duh! So why have the pill in the first place?
Because let’s all face it, for long term health, success and confidence, it takes creating a lifestyle that encompasses that. No one can or should expect to transform their body with the popping of a little pill and then taking a trip to the local McDonald’s for a burger and fries.
It’s not that I am 100% against these pills, if they truly do help without nasty long term or short term side affects then I understand that some people need a boost to get them started. But that’s all they should be looked at as. A starter or motivator to help you get started towards changing the other areas of your life. As well as to help you understand yourself and how you got to this position in the first place.
So if you grab a pill when something comes on the market, which I can assure you something will, make sure to grab a trainer to get your exercise routines and nutrition going too!
